Bridging the Gap

In Australia, it currently takes around 100 days, more than three months, on average for a teenager to access mental health treatment, such as ICAMHS or Headspace BMJ OpenUNSW Sites. This critical waiting period can heighten distress, feelings of abandonment and reliance on unhealthy coping mechanisms, making timely support vital UNSW SitesRACGP. My check-in and counselling sessions are designed to fill that gap, offering a safe, caring and immediate source of support while you're waiting for free service providers.

Everything shared in teen-only sessions is held in strict confidence, unless there are significant safety concerns or they give me permission to share. If you're unsure, we’ll discuss the boundaries together at the start of your first session.

Teen Check-In Sessions: 30 Minutes
(or 1 Hour if Needed)

Sometimes, what a teen needs most is to be listened to by someone outside their circle. My 30-minute check-in sessions (extendable to 1 hour if preferred) offer:

  • A confidential space to express thoughts and feelings without judgment.

  • Immediate relief and emotional validation.

  • Practical strategies to help you manage stress, anxiety or overwhelming emotions.

  • A supportive interim solution while you wait to access services like ICAMHS or Headspace.

If your teen is experiencing suicidal thoughts or is at immediate risk of harm, please go straight to your nearest Emergency Department or attend ICAMHS as a walk-in or call 000. Crisis lines such as Lifeline (13 11 14) and Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) are also available 24/7.

All teens that have suicidal ideation or are self harming will need to be assessed by ICAMHS/Youth Service Provider first. Please get in touch if you need more information about this process.
