General Counselling FAQs
1. What is counselling, and how can it help me?
Counselling is a safe and supportive space where you can talk openly about what’s on your mind. Together, we explore your challenges, feelings, goals and find ways to move forward that feel right for you. Counselling can help with stress, relationships, anxiety, parenting, life transitions and more.
2. Do I need a referral from a GP to see you?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with me whenever you’re ready.

Sessions are held over a secure video platform called Cliniko. You’ll receive a private link before your session. All you need is a quiet space, a good internet connection and your phone, tablet, or computer.

I use a secure, encrypted telehealth platform designed for counselling called Cliniko Your privacy is always protected. Please see my privacy policy for more details.
5. What’s the difference between counselling and coaching?
Counselling focuses on emotional wellbeing, healing, and working through challenges. Coaching is more forward-looking and helps you set and achieve goals. I offer both, depending on your needs.

Anything that matters to you. Common areas include stress, anxiety, low mood, parenting challenges, school pressures, women’s health, grief and loss, life transitions and burnout.
7. How long does a counselling session last?
Sessions are usually 60 minutes but 30 minute sessions are available.
8. How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your needs and goals. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others choose longer-term support. We’ll work at your pace.
9. What if I don’t know what to say in the session?
That’s completely okay. Many people feel nervous at first. I’ll gently guide the conversation so you feel comfortable.
10. Can I try one session before deciding if it’s right for me?
Yes, absolutely. Many clients start with one session to see if it feels like a good fit.
Teen & Parent Support FAQs
11. Do you see teens on their own, or with parents?
Both options are available. Some sessions are teen-only, others may include a parent. We’ll decide together what’s best for your family.
12. What if my teenager doesn’t want to come to counselling?
That’s common. I aim to create a space where teens feel safe and heard. Sometimes starting with a short session or involving a parent can help ease them in.
13. Can I attend the session with my teen?
Yes, if your teen agrees. Joint sessions can be helpful for improving communication and building understanding.
14. How do you support parents as well as teens?
Parenting can be tough. I offer parent-only sessions as well so you can get support too.
15. Is everything my teen says confidential?
Yes, with some exceptions. If there’s a risk of harm to themselves or others, I may need to break confidentiality for safety. I always explain this clearly to teens and parents at the start.
